Manchester Phones 4U Arena: 6th November 2014
Brilliant performance, excellent band, but above all Paolo Nutini has the best voice I’ve ever heard live. With the ability to cover a range of styles his soulful, sweet and raw tones were amazing throughout the two hour set that spanned the genres of rock, soul, dance and pop.
The packed arena was the last gig of the UK tour and the crowd were treated to hits from each of Paolo’s three albums but the opener Scream (Funk My Life Up) from his latest album Causic Love set the tone for the evening. The quality and enthusiasm continued through upbeat and acoustic sections with brilliant renditions of These Streets and Candy showing a lone Paolo and his guitar captivate the audience with ‘that voice’.
I also particularly enjoyed the reworked and soulful renditions of originial hits Jenny Don’t Be Hasty and Pencil Full of Lead showing the full extent of the talent on stage and a reason why you can’t beat live music. I also have to mention the gifted backing singer who was great throughout at complementing Paolo’s varied set list.
Finally, the encore included a brilliant cover of MGMT’s Time to Pretend and brought the evening to a climax with a solo Paolo belting out Last Request. An extremely talented man, my advice is catch him when he’s next in town. You won’t be dissappointed.
